It’s day 9 of my keto journey, and I’m starting to feel more comfortable with this new way of eating. But today, I want to talk about the importance of balance and flexibility, especially when it comes to special occasions like Valentine’s Day.

This morning, I kicked things off with my usual cup of French press coffee, adding a splash of heavy cream for that extra richness. It’s a comforting ritual that sets the tone for the day ahead. And of course, I couldn’t resist indulging in a breve to keep me energized through the morning.

As the day progressed, I made sure to fuel my body with nutritious choices like mixed raw nuts and a Caesar salad for lunch. But then came the evening, and with it, the temptation of Valentine’s Day treats. Instead of stressing over staying strictly keto, I made a conscious decision to enjoy the moment and indulge in some delicious tacos and nachos from Taco Bell.

I know that some may view this as a “cheat meal,” but I prefer to think of it as a mindful choice. By allowing myself to enjoy these special treats in moderation, I’m able to maintain a healthy relationship with food and avoid feelings of deprivation. There’s is also something to be said around ritual. Even when I wasn’t eating keto, I didn’t eat fast food very often; maybe 2-3times a year. My girlfriend and I have had a tradition for the last 7 years of going to Taco Bell for valentines day, and this year was no exception.

It’s all about finding a balance that works for me and listening to my body’s cues. And on days like today, when celebrations call for a little indulgence, I’m reminded that it’s okay to loosen the reins and enjoy life’s simple pleasures.

At some point in the day I also got in a minor amount of pushups. It felt so immaterial that I almost didn’t mention it, but decided to keep myself honest.

If you’ve ever struggled with the idea of being super strict on a keto diet, I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences. Drop a comment below and let’s start a conversation about finding balance and flexibility on our keto journeys.
